CoHo Season 20
OCTOBER 16 – NOVEMBER 7, 2015
CoHo Productions & Whink Productions present the world premiere of
Remme’s Run
by Wayne Harrel
Directed by Jamie Rea
A high-tech, wild west performance based on the true story of French-Canadian frontiersman Louis Remme who raced on horseback from Sacramento to Portland in six days to rescue his life’s savings from a bank gone bust in 1855. Meanwhile, Remme’s trailhand pals escort his faro-dealing lady love north by steamboat, making their own justice with wit, cunning and crooked cards. This anticipated world premiere is a daring, diverse and interactive adventure ride.
CoHo Productions with Wayne Harrel co-present the full-length world premiere of Remme’s Run after it’s ambitious and well-received RACC-funded workshop production staged at Portland Playhouse in the 2014 Fertile Ground Festival.
PRESS REVIEWS:
Oregonian (FG 2014) Review
“Technical Wizardry in True Tale…Remme’s Run tells the epic true story of Louis Remme, a frontiersman on a righteous, Job-like mission to outflank a rotten bank and become a family man in the Eden of Sauvie Island. The story was reported in the Oregonian in 1882 and has inspired western tales by writers including Louis L’Amour and Thorn Bacon. Here, writer/director Wayne Harrel has staged Remme’s six-day horseback run from Sacramento to Portland with fantastic multimedia displays by technical director Jerry Green and props both high-fi and low [on] a set both sparse and elaborate…Some of the best moments are in the trilingual conversations between Remme and Noé, a reminder of how diverse the Wild West once was.”
PORTLAND STAGE REVIEWS (FG 2014)
“a lot going for it that would please many, especially local Oregonians: a rollicking, allegedly true 1850s Western yarn…an ambitious and massively conceived and executed use of slides, video and animation to become the entire stage setting of 1850s California and Oregon – and excellently so.”
“fast-paced old-west adventure story of various fortunes worked for, won, lost, stolen and squandered…already spirited, amusing and engaging.”
“I cannot say enough good things about the visuals. How they managed to get all the images so exacting in their locations must have taken a monumental effort. At times the actors walk toward the projections and are then swallowed up by them. At one point a knife is thrown from the stage area and appears in the visuals, then back again as it’s withdrawn. One of the highlights was the fight onscreen between two vicious animals. And the movement which was shown, underwater and on land, as they traveled, was amazing. A virtual feast of the eyes for an emaciated man!”
