CoHo in collaboration with GRITO Poetry/Productions is hosting a series of community engagement events. Post-show talkbacks will last approximately one hour and will feature conversations with local artists, activists, cultural choreographers, student leaders, health practitioners, and more. Tuesday, March 8, 7:00 pm: “Celebration of International Women’s Day”
Join us for a celebration of International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This Zoom event will feature an invocation from Jacquelyne Andrew (Lil’wat), music, poetry and readings from Paulann Peterson, Oregon Poet Laureate Emerita, Claudia Castro Luna, Washington State Poet Laureate Emerita, Forgotten Women writer/co-producer Cindy Williams Gutiérrez, director Gemma Whelan, and a scene from the play, presented by Dre Slaman and Kristin Robinson. A brief Q&A session will follow the event.

Thursday, March 31, 8:45 pm: “Art as Power and Protest”
Post-show conversation with women visual artists on bold visual expressions of empowerment and provocation. Moderated by Morgan Clark-Gaynor, Operations Manager for CoHo Productions and creator of a Clown as Protest traveling show.

Friday, April 1, 8:45 pm: “Millions of Intricate Moves”
On Student-Teacher Night: Inspired by William Stafford’s “Justice will take us millions of intricate moves,”post-show conversation with playwright-producer Cindy Williams Gutiérrez and Director Gemma Whelan on their activist-theatre projects. The audience will be invited to share thoughts on the “intricate moves” needed for justice in today’s world. Sponsored by the Friends of William Stafford.

Saturday, April 2, 8:45 pm: “Embodying Cultural Authenticity”
Post-show talk-back with cultural choreographers on their personal journeys of preserving cultural authenticity. Moderated by Naskah Zada, journalist and host of The Zada Show.

In participation with National Public Health Week: Post-show conversation with Latinx community leaders on successful strategies to increase equity in women’s healthcare. Moderated by Joaquin Lopez, Portland Creative Laureate and former Manager of Latino Network’s Executive Leadership Program.

Thursday, April 14, 8:45 pm: “Stories of Survival and Resilience”
In commemoration of Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month: Post-show conversation with immigrant women sharing their personal stories of surviving genocide and rebuilding their lives. Moderated by Sankar Raman, Founding Executive Director of The Immigrant Story.

Saturday, April 16, 8:45 pm: “Equity in the Arts”
Post-show talk-back with the cast, lead choreographer, director, and playwright-producer on gender, racial, and age equity in the arts. Moderated by Yasmin Ruvalcaba, Operations Manager of Advance Gender Equity in the Arts.

Sunday, April 17, 3:15 pm: “The Choreopoem as a Call for Social Justice”
Post-show talk-back with the playwright, director, lead choreographer, and musical director on the choreopoem’s theatrical form as an impetus for social justice. Moderated by Ellen Margolis, Theatre and Dance Department Chair, Pacific University.
