We’re calling this our PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE SEASON and you won’t want to miss it!
In October, we highlight the past with a riveting play which explores the personal and ethical dilemmas surrounding aging parents and personal rights. The Outgoing Tide by Bruce Graham is a deeply moving yet surprisingly funny look at a long-time marriage, relationships with adult children and negotiating the end game. Veteran Portland actors Jane Fellows and Tobias Andersen are perfectly cast as the patient wife and the proud, flinty husband in a production to be directed by ART’s own Stephanie Mulligan.
In January of 2014, we shift to the present with Toshiki Okada’s Enjoy. Directed by Michael Griggs, this West Coast Premier will feature nine young actors in a play which reflects the uncertain future facing today’s US college graduate through the mirror of Japan’s own Lost Generation. Set in Tokyo, the production will offer a unique style of language and movement-based theatre set against a colorful pop-art landscape.
Finally, our future selection, Maple & Vine by Jordan Harrison, poses the intriguing question – would our relationships be healthier, would we be more free without the technology and advancements that have invaded our lives? Said another way, if you had the choice, would you party like it’s 1955? CoHo alumna Megan Kate Ward (2009’s Fool For Love) will direct this thought-provoking, dark comedy in April.
