Season 25

In the age of a pandemic, Season 25 was one for the books. We kicked off the year with From These Streets I Rise, an inspirational piece of love and compassion honoring the diverse stories and immediate experiences of Portland Street Roots’ vendors impacted by homelessness. We celebrated the holidays with Liza & Liberace, a musical tribute to all glitz, glam, and gold. And we finished off the season with original work from the CoHo Lab Residency Project and CoHo NIGHTLIFE, live-streamed from the CoHo stage, straight to the comfort and safety of your own home.

FROM THESE STREETS I RISE by Mikki Jordan

Co Produced by Mikki Jordan & Chris Harder
Directed by Chris Harder
From These Streets I Rise is an inspirational piece of love and compassion honoring the diverse stories and immediate experiences of Portland Street Roots’ vendors impacted by homelessness.  Weaving together stories and live music, one actress shifts seamlessly through multiple characters, taking us on a unique journey that reminds us of the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit.

This show was created in honor of Street Roots. Their mission is to create income opportunities for individuals struggling with homelessness and poverty. To honor this mission CoHo will donate proceeds from all ticket sales directly to Street Roots. The majority of those funds will be given to the Street Roots vendors who contributed their stories to this project

Liberace & Liza: A Tribute

Produced by David Saffert and Jillian Snow Harris
David Saffert & Jillian Snow Harris share the stage as Liberace & Liza Minnelli, creating an exhilarating night of musical and comical fireworks. Delighting in the costumes, music, and glamour of show business’s wildest entertainers, you and your friends will be smiling and clapping along to such hits as BoogieWoogieChopsticksCabaret, & New York, New York.

Conducting the entire show is Bo Ayars who toured with “Lee” for 13 years as his arranger and Music Director. Liberace said, “I don’t give concerts, I put on a show.” That’s what we do, and what a show it is!

The CoHo Lab Residency Project

Produced by Phil Johnson
Amidst our virtual overhaul, CoHo’s mission remains the same: to embolden and uplift performing artists in the Portland community. Our Residency program is a lynchpin in the actualization of this mission. It gives local artists four months of dedicated time, resources, and freedom to develop their latest original work.

Throughout their residency, artists give two presentations to showcase their work. One is an in-house showing for staff, crew, and fellow residents. The other is a three-day weekend performance broadcast to the general public. It is CoHo’s immense pleasure to produce this festival, which is always filled with music, movement, and memory-making exhibitions.

CoHO NIGHTLIFE

Produced by Phil Johnson
CoHo is thrilled to launch CoHo NIGHTLIFE, our latest installment in collaborative, live-streaming, virtual programming. CoHo NIGHTLIFE is a series of performances, performed at the CoHo Theatre and streamed live to Twitch. Audience members are invited to engage with the performance through the Twitch chat feature.

All performances are FREE and open to the public. Donations will be collected before, during, and after the show, and audience members are invited to tip the performer directly through their Venmo or Cashapp accounts.
