Omong Kosong: Trickster Tales of Indonesia and Elsewhere

Presented by Jusby the Clown
Sept. 12, 2024 @ 7:30 PM

“Omong Kosong” is a phrase that means nonsense (literally ‘Empty Chatter’), and Jusby brings to life several Indonesian fables in honor of his maternal ancestors, sharing two classic fables and two contemporary looks at childhood. He’ll be sure to include both traditional and avant-garde clown techniques. A modern comedic twist on lessons learned from Indonesian legends, Jusby deftly weaves tales of his ancestors into present-day quandaries.

Jusby's Stories

      • Kancil, the Mouse Deer, an Indonesian trickster uses valuable natural resources to outsmart Harimau the tiger three times by listening for hints from the Cosmic Giggle.
      • Kraken-Ka, the First Komodo Dragon disobeys the Goddess Naga’s one rule and suffers the consequences. TW: infanticide.
      • The Giant Leap, 10,000 Hops, & the Broken 5th Metatarsal, in which Jusby learns how support arrives in many forms.
      • & The Tale of the Twice Lost Tooth, in which 2d grader Sydney ponders their mortality and the values of scientific inquiry.

Each story concludes with a moral, or morale, or morel as the case may be.

About the Facilitator
