About Oregon Children's Theater

Oregon Children’s Theatre creates exceptional theater experiences that transform lives. They believe theater and storytelling can educate, empower, inspire, and entertain in remarkable ways. Their vision is that all children, families, and communities have opportunities to learn and grow through theater and the arts.

Since 1988, Oregon Children’s Theatre has been creating extraordinary theater for young audiences. They bring great stories to life on stage, with productions distinguished by their professional polish and awe-inspiring staging.  For many children, attending an OCT production is their first experience with professional performing arts. At the end of the day, OCT’s work is grounded in the belief that theater and storytelling can educate, inspire, empower, and entertain in remarkable ways.

OCT’s mission and vision compel them to serve not only as a valued arts organization, but as a change agent advancing social justice in our community. They recognize the urgent need to address inequities on an institutional level, and embrace their responsibility to mitigate real and perceived barriers to participation. OCT believes that reaching out and engaging with all parts of the community will lead to a fuller understanding of the cultures that surround us, and provide us with insight into how to tell meaningful and relevant stories.  That’s how OCT builds trust and credibility, build audiences, provide positive impacts on children, remain sustainable and relevant, and help grow the spirit and soul of the organization.

About the Young Professionals Company

The award-winning Young Professionals Company is made up of dedicated theater students–ages 14 and up–who seek advanced training through exposure to a wide range of college-level workshops, professional development, resources, and information.

Each season, the Young Professionals Company selects, produces, and performs three professional plays geared toward teen audiences. Included in the season is Impulse – OCT’s improv troupe. In addition to the annual show at OCT, Impulse has additional performances on stages all around Portland.

Young Professionals thrive on collaboration, challenging themselves to reach their potential and fostering a supportive environment where it’s safe for everyone to reach for their dreams. YPs must have the desire and work ethic to build on the skills they have, and the interest to learn their craft from multiple training techniques, experiences, and perspectives.
