I'll Be Looking at the Stars Too

When a mystery is too overpowering, one dare not disobey

-Antoine de Saint Exupéry, The Little Prince

Students at PETE’s Institute for Contemporary Performance bring you I’ll Be Looking at the Stars, Too: an original performance dealing with the personal quest through the unknown, which transports audiences from the ordinary world, into shadow worlds, and back again.

I’ll Be Looking at the Stars, Too wants to know what it takes to explore the unknown and leave behind what is familiar, inspired by the sources ranging from : The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Scott Kelly’s year-long mission, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Waking Life, Oman Ra, and The Little Prince. Each member acts and directs their own segment within the structure. The result is a reformatting of the classic structure of myth. The play will be broken apart and reformed along with the inner journey of the Hero. It sits somewhere between dream and wakefulness and takes audiences into the world of the subconscious where asking the right questions is more important than having the right answers.

This performance is the culmination of the ensemble’s year-long training program where discovery is emphasized over comfort. ICP students have been working with the faculty since September of 2015, striving to pose questions about the role of the theatre artist in the creation of performance for the 21st Century. ICP is an interdisciplinary training program for the contemporary theatre artist. The ICP certificate program aims to create theatre artists that will reinvent theatrical storytelling; to train artists that will communicate radical thought in space, time and body. The program is designed to inspire the next generation of performance makers. ICP’s unique laboratory approach to performance training means that faculty and students are engaged together in the process of hypothesis, research and outcome.
